In a significant development for Congress candidate Md Mottakin Alam, the appellate Tribunal has instructed the Election Commission to reinstate his name on the voters’ list in West Bengal. This decision comes after his name was removed during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in the state.<\/p>\n
Monday marked the final opportunity for candidates to submit their nomination papers for the Ratua Assembly seat, where Alam is representing Congress.<\/p>\n
Following the Tribunal’s ruling, Alam proceeded to file his nomination papers. Earlier that day, the Supreme Court had intervened, directing the Tribunal to resolve Alam’s case by 12:30 PM.<\/p>\n
On the preceding Sunday, the Tribunal issued a similar directive for Mohtab Sheikh, another Congress candidate from Farakka, who had also sought relief from the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n
Alam previously secured victory in the 2016 Assembly elections as the Congress nominee from Manikchak but faced defeat in the subsequent election five years later.<\/p>\n
