The families of four individuals who tragically lost their lives in an accident on March 21, while attending a drug de-addiction center in Haryana, have expressed their frustrations regarding the lack of progress in the investigation. Over two weeks have passed since the incident, and the accused parties have yet to be apprehended.<\/p>\n
The fatal accident took place around 10:30 PM near Sandhoa village, located in the Maur constituency of Bathinda. All four victims hailed from Mansa district in Punjab.<\/p>\n
Relatives of the deceased claim that the individuals were dispatched without parental consent by a de-addiction facility situated in Rori village, Sirsa district. They were sent to retrieve another addict from Maur Kalan village, approximately 50 kilometers away.<\/p>\n
Following a complaint lodged by a family member, the Maur police registered a First Information Report (FIR) on March 22 under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The FIR names Ranjeet Singh, the owner of the de-addiction center, his associate Arun Kumar, and an unidentified individual. However, no arrests have been made to date.<\/p>\n
One family member voiced their concerns, stating, \u201cDespite 16 days having elapsed since the accident, there has been no arrest. Authorities only inform us that they are conducting raids. The vehicle involved in the accident, which belonged to one of the deceased, was left at the site, and we had to arrange for it to be towed to the Maur police station on April 4. The police did not take any initiative to retrieve the vehicle from the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n
Another relative mentioned plans to meet with the deputy superintendent of police in Maur to demand action regarding the case. \u201cWhen we went to collect the car, we discovered that the air conditioning compressor, battery, and tires were missing. On the day of the accident, our son was in Mansa for a cousin’s wedding. At 6:30 PM, he received a call from the center instructing him to come. He had previously overcome his addiction and was volunteering at the center, unaware that he would be sent to pick up another person,\u201d they explained.<\/p>\n
Family members have raised serious concerns about the lack of supervision and the late-night dispatch of the four inmates, highlighting potential issues regarding the operations of private de-addiction centers and the safety of their patients.<\/p>\n
In response to inquiries, SHO Tarundeep Singh from the Maur police station confirmed that a case has been registered and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects. However, families believe that tangible action has not yet been taken. They also pointed out that the de-addiction center in Rori continues to function while the accused remain at large.<\/p>\n
The Indian Express attempted to reach Harjeet Singh, the DIG of the Bathinda range, for comments, but he was unavailable.<\/p>\n
