On Tuesday, the Ahmedabad City Police conducted an exhumation of a two-and-a-half-month-old infant’s body, who had passed away unexpectedly on April 4. This incident followed the sudden death of her three-year-old sister just a day later, leading authorities to initiate a post-mortem investigation.<\/p>\n
The grieving parents, Vipulkumar Gaurishankar Prajapati and Bhavnagar Prajapati, currently receiving medical care at K D Hospital, have expressed their suspicions regarding the possible connection between their daughters\u2019 fatalities and dosas made from a pre-packaged batter purchased from a dairy in Chandkheda, Ahmedabad.<\/p>\n
Despite these concerns, the police are continuing their inquiries, suggesting that the connection seems improbable, particularly considering that the infant was reportedly breastfed and had not been given solid food. Inspector J K Makwana from the Chandkheda police station stated, \u201cWe have exhumed the two-and-a-half-month-old child’s body for a panel post-mortem. The post-mortem of the elder sister was completed on April 5. We are currently awaiting the toxicology report results for all cases, including those of the parents who are hospitalized.<\/p>\n
In addition, the investigation is ongoing, with the police still waiting for results from samples collected from the family’s residence and the dairy involved. Both the Food Department and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) are analyzing these samples.<\/p>\n
Regarding the dairy’s response, PI Makwana noted that the owner mentioned having sold dosa batter for many years and indicated that other customers who purchased the same product on April 1 had not reported any issues.<\/p>\n
The police are exploring various potential causes behind the tragic deaths of the two children. Inspector Makwana emphasized that concrete findings will only emerge once the respective authorities provide their test results to the police.<\/p>\n
The inquiry commenced after Prajapati reported the demise of his second child on April 5, leading to the filing of an Accidental Death (AD) report at the Chandkheda Police Station.<\/p>\n
On Monday, Makwana shared that Prajapati disclosed purchasing dosa batter from a dairy on IOCL Road in Chandkheda on April 1. The family consumed dosas made from this batter on April 1 and 2, after which they fell ill but initially improved with treatment and did not seek further medical attention. Unfortunately, their health deteriorated again, resulting in the death of their two-and-a-half-month-old daughter on April 4.<\/p>\n
After the child’s passing, the family held her last rites without notifying any authorities. The following day, their three-year-old daughter, Mishti, lost consciousness and was taken to K D Hospital, where she tragically passed away on April 5. Prajapati subsequently informed the police about her death.<\/p>\n
