On Tuesday, violence erupted in Bishnupur, Manipur, following the tragic deaths of a four-year-old boy and his newborn sister, who lost their lives at home early in the morning due to a projectile strike. This incident has ignited widespread protests across the region.<\/p>\n
The horrifying event took place in the village of Tronglaobi Awang Leikai, which lies on the contentious border between the Meitei-majority valley and the Kuki-Zomi-dominated hills. The children’s mother, Oinam Binita, was severely injured in the attack and is currently hospitalized.<\/p>\n
In response to the tragedy, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, criticized the Modi administration, labeling it as “desensitized and stone-hearted.” He expressed his outrage on social media, stating that innocent children continue to suffer in the ongoing violence in Manipur and lamented the absence of any signs of peace.<\/p>\n
Gandhi emphasized that the current government appears to have forgotten that the children of Manipur are also part of the nation and urged the administration to take urgent action. He questioned when the government would acknowledge the suffering in Manipur and stop the ongoing loss of life.<\/p>\n
He reiterated his belief that lasting peace can only be achieved by fostering unity among all communities and addressing the crisis with empathy. Gandhi urged Prime Minister Modi to recognize that Manipur is not just a state but a shared responsibility that requires immediate and tangible measures rather than superficial statements or visits.<\/p>\n
In light of the escalating violence, the state government has temporarily suspended internet services in five districts\u2014Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur\u2014for three days in an effort to restore order.<\/p>\n
Gandhi has been a prominent critic of the Central government and Prime Minister Modi for their handling of the ethnic tensions that have plagued Manipur over the past three years, consistently calling for peace and resolution in the region.<\/p>\n
