For several months, I have been engaged in a subtle conflict with a neighbor who consistently fails to dispose of their trash on the designated days. When I say “subtle conflict,” I mean I have been venting my frustrations to my ever-patient spouse while my neighbor remains blissfully ignorant of our adversarial relationship. However, I reached a breaking point last week and decided to take action by composing a strongly-worded letter. “Tuesday will be a day of reckoning in your home, neighbor!” I declared. “You must put out your rubbish correctly, or you\u2019ll face dire consequences \u2013 just wait and see! Praise be to Allah.”<\/p>\n
Forgive me for invoking Allah in this obviously fictional scenario; I was merely channeling a certain former U.S. president. Many may recall Donald Trump\u2019s alarming Easter Sunday message to Iran, where he issued threats of mass bombing against civilian targets. If you haven\u2019t seen it yet, I recommend looking it up; it\u2019s quite distressing. The days when Trump\u2019s rants were seen as humorous (remember the infamous \u201ccovfefe\u201d?) are long gone. The constant stream of erratic comments from someone who appears to be mentally unstable is no laughing matter, as he not only jeopardizes the United States but also impacts the entire globe. If an ordinary citizen behaved as Trump does, they would likely face termination or institutionalization quite swiftly.<\/p>\n
Many are questioning what it would take for Trump to be removed from the highest office in the nation. Several politicians have suggested invoking the 25th Amendment as a potential means of ousting an unfit president. Following Trump\u2019s inflammatory social media remarks, Senator Chris Murphy commented on X, stating, “If I were in Trump\u2019s cabinet, I would spend Easter consulting constitutional lawyers regarding the 25th Amendment. This is completely unhinged. He has already caused numerous deaths and will cause many more.”<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s be candid: at this rate, Trump could devastate half of the Middle East, and it seems unlikely that anyone around him would attempt to intervene. In fact, they might even celebrate the chaos and embrace the idea of apocalyptic times. Even if his supporters weren\u2019t completely enthralled by Trump, the U.S. political system makes it exceedingly difficult to remove a sitting president. Ultimately, there are two scenarios under which Trump might depart office before his term concludes: the first being death, and the second, if his antics begin to financially harm his wealthy allies. However, considering the well-timed stock market maneuvers occurring amidst the Iran conflict, the latter seems improbable.<\/p>\n
As a side note, I encourage recent graduates navigating a tough job market to take note of this situation. For those seeking a career with exceptional job security, regardless of performance, U.S. politics appears to be the path to take. Not only is it challenging to remove a president, but the system also creates significant barriers to defeating an incumbent congressperson or senator. Consequently, once individuals gain power, they tend to maintain it far longer than is beneficial. For instance, in 2024, a reporter uncovered that a Republican congresswoman from Texas, who had not voted in months, was residing in an assisted living facility due to “dementia issues.” Similarly, the late Democratic senator Dianne Feinstein passed away while still in office in 2023 at the age of 90, having missed nearly 100 votes due to serious health problems and concerns regarding her mental sharpness. Meanwhile, Republican senator Mitch McConnell, now 84, has experienced several public incidents of freezing but has opted to retire this year while preserving some dignity. And I need not elaborate on the current state of Joe Biden.<\/p>\n
But enough with the lamentations. I believe I have a potential solution to our predicament. Since we cannot depend on the traditional checks and balances to remove Trump from power, we must think outside the box. The Trump administration has a fondness for technology; why not persuade our dear leader that he can achieve historical significance by spending his days on the golf course while an AI president handles the responsibilities? While AI does come with its own set of challenges, transitioning from a leader with little intelligence to one powered by artificial intelligence could be seen as an improvement, right? And if the AI version of Trump starts to misbehave, we could always try the classic method of turning it off and on again. It\u2019s a pity we can\u2019t apply the same approach to democracy.<\/p>\n
