In a significant drug enforcement operation, the Panchkula police have apprehended a 23-year-old BCA graduate, seizing heroin valued at more than Rs 6 crore, along with cash amounting to Rs 15 lakh believed to be connected to drug trafficking activities.<\/p>\n
During a press briefing, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Amarinder Singh reported that a Crime Branch team operating in Sector 26 arrested Lovjot Singh, who hails from Jalalabad in the Fazilka district of Punjab, on April 5. He was taken into custody near Kundi village in Sector 20, Panchkula.<\/p>\n
Authorities recovered 3.89 kg of heroin from Singh, which holds an estimated value exceeding Rs 6 crore in the global market. Additionally, Rs 15 lakh in cash, presumed to be drug-related profits, was confiscated during the operation.<\/p>\n
Investigations revealed that Singh, a BCA graduate, allegedly acquired the heroin directly from the Pakistan border. He had been residing in a rented place in Chandigarh and had intentions to distribute more than 3 kg of the drug across the Tricity area\u2014comprising Panchkula, Chandigarh, and Mohali\u2014within a week.<\/p>\n
A case has been registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Sector 20 police station. On April 6, Singh was presented in court, where he was granted a four-day police remand for further questioning.<\/p>\n
During interrogation, Singh confessed to using Chandigarh as the base for his operations.<\/p>\n
This operation is reportedly connected to an earlier arrest made on April 3, when the Crime Branch detained Sahil, a Dera Bassi resident, who was found in possession of 310 grams of heroin in Tabar village, Raipur Rani. While being questioned, Sahil disclosed that he had obtained the drugs from his cousin, Satnam Singh. Consequently, police arrested Satnam Singh on April 5, and he implicated Lovjot Singh as the primary supplier.<\/p>\n
The Deputy Commissioner of Police highlighted that this bust represents the second-largest seizure of heroin in Haryana and the most substantial recovery recorded in Panchkula district.<\/p>\n
Panchkula Police Commissioner (ADGP) Sibhash Kabiraj commented, \u201cThis seizure signifies more than just an arrest; it deals a critical blow to a cross-border drug supply network. We are committed to tracking down the entire network and ensuring that all individuals involved are held accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n
