Orban has invested heavily in the Danube Institute, a right-leaning think tank in Budapest that serves as a connection between his government and Trump’s “Make America Great Again” movement. While in Hungary, Vance criticized the European Union for allegedly interfering in the electoral process. The EU has publicly expressed its desire to see Orban removed from power and has withheld approximately $36 billion in funding over concerns regarding corruption in Hungary. Vance accused EU officials of undermining Hungary’s economy and energy independence out of animosity towards Orban.<\/p>\n
Moreover, Vance echoed Orban’s claims that political rival Peter Magyar was colluding with Ukraine and the European Council, asserting that the funding freeze is an attempt by EU leaders to discredit Orban’s administration and assist its opponents.<\/p>\n
