After a decade since the tragic shooting of National Investigation Agency (NIA) officer Tanzeel Ahmed and his spouse Farzana in Sahaspur, located in the Bijnor district of Western Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court has reversed the conviction of the sole accused in this case.<\/p>\n
In a landmark ruling, the High Court annulled the previous decision made by the Bijnor Additional District Judge Court, which had sentenced the defendant, Raiyyan, to death.<\/p>\n
On May 21, 2022, the Bijnor court had convicted both Raiyyan and another individual, Munir, for their involvement in the murder. However, Munir passed away in the hospital due to a long-term illness while serving his sentence, whereas Raiyyan has remained incarcerated since his arrest in 2016.<\/p>\n
Justice Siddharth, presiding over a single bench, expressed in the judgment delivered on March 31, \u201cThe court finds the prosecution’s case to be riddled with uncertainties and the behavior of its witnesses to be highly questionable\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
The incident occurred in April 2016 when Ahmed, aged 49, was returning from a family celebration with his wife and two children.<\/p>\n
Ahmed had been involved in numerous high-profile cases concerning the Indian Mujahideen (IM), including the arrest and investigation of its leader in India, Yasin Bhatkal.<\/p>\n
