In a strategic decision ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, the Uttar Pradesh government has approved a proposal to raise the monthly salaries of shiksha mitras (para teachers) and part-time instructors by Rs 8,000. This announcement was made by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath earlier.<\/p>\n
With the new increase, shiksha mitras will receive Rs 18,000 per month, while part-time instructors will earn Rs 17,000. The revised salaries are set to take effect from April 1, with the adjustments reflected in the payments made in May. The updated compensation will be applicable for an 11-month period each year.<\/p>\n
This initiative is anticipated to positively impact a large number of educational workers throughout the state, coinciding with the government’s efforts to strengthen its support among key employee groups prior to the elections.<\/p>\n
According to officials, this decision will impose an additional financial obligation of over Rs 1,475.27 crore on the state’s budget. Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh provided details following a Cabinet meeting, noting that there are currently 1,42,929 shiksha mitras employed in Uttar Pradesh. Out of these, 1,29,332 are part of the Central government’s Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, which is funded at a ratio of 60:40.<\/p>\n
The minister indicated that the state would request the Central government\u2019s contribution for the increased honorarium. He also mentioned that if the Central government does not approve this request, the state would absorb an additional cost of Rs 1,138.12 crore.<\/p>\n
Additionally, there are 13,597 shiksha mitras receiving full funding from the state, and the salary increase for this group is expected to add Rs 119.65 crore to state expenditures. Furthermore, the decision will also benefit 24,717 part-time instructors working across 13,769 upper primary schools, leading to an extra financial burden of Rs 217.50 crore on the state government.<\/p>\n
