A man who was shot by police after his mother requested a welfare check has been charged with assaulting law enforcement. The incident took place on April 1 on Akebia Street in Arana Hills, located to the north of Brisbane.<\/p>\n
According to police reports, officers arrived at the scene and attempted to engage with the 19-year-old male when a confrontation occurred. It is alleged that the individual brandished a large kitchen knife, prompting officers to shoot him twice in the abdomen.<\/p>\n
The man was subsequently transported to the hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.<\/p>\n
He faces multiple charges, including three counts of serious assault against a police officer while armed and one count of serious assault of a police officer performing their duties while armed.<\/p>\n
A bedside hearing is scheduled for this afternoon as part of the legal proceedings.<\/p>\n
The circumstances surrounding the shooting are currently being examined by the Ethical Standards Command, with the Crime and Corruption Commission providing oversight of the investigation.<\/p>\n
