A woman referred to as the “Ketamine Queen” has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for her role in supplying the drug that contributed to the death of actor Matthew Perry.<\/p>\n
Jasveen Sangha, 42, acknowledged in a plea deal that she collaborated with another dealer to provide Perry with numerous vials of ketamine, including the lethal dose that resulted in his overdose in October 2023 at the age of 54.<\/p>\n
Last year, Sangha pleaded guilty to maintaining a drug-involved premises, distributing ketamine on three occasions, and causing death or serious injury through ketamine distribution. She was facing a potential maximum sentence of 65 years.<\/p>\n
During her sentencing hearing held in a federal court in Los Angeles, Sangha, who appeared with her ankles restrained, expressed that she takes “full responsibility for my actions.” She conveyed her remorse, stating, “I am deeply ashamed of how my actions affected all the families here today” and mentioned her efforts to improve herself.<\/p>\n
Her emotional hearing included victim impact statements from Perry’s family, who expressed their grief over the loss. Perry’s stepmother, Debbie Perry, stated, “The pain you caused is irreversible,” and urged the judge to impose the highest possible sentence to prevent her from harming others.<\/p>\n
Perry’s stepfather, Keith Morrison, also addressed Sangha, recalling the multifaceted personality of Perry and emphasizing that he did not harbor hatred for her but recognized her role in supplying drugs to someone struggling with addiction.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors had urged the court to impose a 15-year sentence, citing Sangha’s “cold callousness and disregard for life,” while highlighting a perceived lack of remorse. They referred to recorded communications from jail where Sangha discussed future financial gains related to the case.<\/p>\n
In a memorandum submitted last month, prosecutors detailed Sangha’s operation of a high-volume drug trafficking ring from her North Hollywood home since at least 2019. They claimed she continued to sell dangerous substances even after being aware of their connection to overdose deaths, including that of Perry and earlier victim Cody McLaury, who died shortly after purchasing ketamine from her in 2019.<\/p>\n
The court heard from McLaury’s sister, Kimberly, who shared her attempts to convince Sangha to cease her drug sales, stating that only her arrest halted her activities.<\/p>\n
Sangha’s defense team argued for a sentence of time served, pointing to her “demonstrated rehabilitation” while incarcerated. They claimed she had maintained sobriety and engaged in recovery programs, with strong family and community support to aid her reintegration into society.<\/p>\n
In response, prosecutors maintained that Sangha has not shown adequate remorse, noting that her defense failed to acknowledge all of her victims. They highlighted her dismissive attitude in recorded conversations, suggesting that she views her criminal past as a potential source of profit.<\/p>\n
Geragos, Sangha’s attorney, maintained that she has been remorseful since the beginning, describing the experience as horrendous for her.<\/p>\n
Besides Sangha, four other individuals have been charged and pleaded guilty in connection with Perry’s death, including the dealer she collaborated with, Erik Fleming, and others involved in the distribution of ketamine.<\/p>\n
According to prosecutors, Sangha and Fleming sold Perry 51 vials of ketamine, which were administered by Perry’s personal assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, leading to the actor’s overdose.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
