Tom Duffy is set to make his debut for the Brisbane Broncos in the NRL, taking on the role of halfback against his former team, the North Queensland Cowboys.<\/p>\n
Due to an injury, Broncos captain Adam Reynolds will not participate in the match scheduled for Friday night at Lang Park.<\/p>\n
Reynolds, who usually plays as halfback, was unable to join his teammates during Thursday\u2019s captain’s run, where he attempted to test his injured groin with various drills. However, despite his efforts, he concluded that he was not fit to kick effectively. Broncos head coach Michael Maguire expressed confidence in Duffy’s ability to step in and perform well.<\/p>\n
“Reyno put in the effort during his running drills and seemed fine, but he realized that his kicking was not up to standard,” Maguire explained. “We are fortunate to have Tommy available to take his place.”<\/p>\n
During training, Duffy demonstrated his skills as the halfback, coordinating plays alongside five-eighth Ezra Mam. The 22-year-old will also handle goal-kicking duties in Reynolds\u2019 absence. Duffy has been closely learning from both Reynolds and fellow sidelined playmaker Ben Hunt since joining the team.<\/p>\n
“I\u2019m excited to see Tommy seize this opportunity. He has integrated well with the team and has worked hard since day one of pre-season, earning his spot,\u201d said Maguire. \u201cHe has a knack for organizing the team and possesses an excellent kicking game.” <\/p>\n
“Tommy just needs to focus on playing his role and executing his responsibilities, and I have full faith he will deliver for us,” he added.<\/p>\n
