Amritpal Singh Mehron, a self-proclaimed Sikh leader and the primary suspect in the murder of Instagram influencer Kanchan Kumari, was deported to India by the UAE authorities on Thursday. Mehron had become infamous for his online moral policing and his leadership of the group known as \u2018Qaum De Rakhe\u2019.<\/p>\n
After the murder of Kanchan Kumari, also known as Kamal Kaur \u2018Bhabhi\u2019, in Bathinda in June 2025, Mehron fled to Dubai, where he continued to make threatening posts on social media. Authorities reported that Kanchan was killed by strangulation due to her content, which was deemed “immoral and vulgar.” In a video, Mehron allegedly took responsibility for the act, framing it as a means to uphold moral standards. He reportedly escaped to the UAE shortly after the crime, leaving from Amritsar airport. Two of his accomplices, Jaspreet Singh and Nimrat Jit Singh, were arrested in connection with the murder.<\/p>\n
In January 2026, Mehron was apprehended by Sharjah Police during a routine visa check, leading to his deportation proceedings back to India. The following month, a court in Bathinda declared him a proclaimed offender after he failed to attend hearings related to the investigation. He had also received summonses to take part in the inquiry. The incident raised significant discussions in Punjab concerning moral policing, vigilantism, public safety, and the protection of women influencers, as Mehron and his group had previously threatened other content creators.<\/p>\n
Mehron hails from a humble background and was employed as a bike mechanic. His election affidavit from 2022 indicates that he completed his Class 12 education in Moga and later obtained a diploma in diesel mechanics.<\/p>\n
