The Eighth symphony, impressively cast and excellently recorded, ranks among the finest in the discography. Tennstedt comes close, but Bychkov achieves this thrilling climax with precision.<\/p>\n
The Ninth symphony is masterfully constructed, with the harrowing disruptions in the opening movement leading to a sense of spiritual liberation in the finale.
