Authorities were called to assist with traffic control on Point Nepean Road, where police set up orange cones to ensure the seal’s safety while it rested. Gen Abbott, who was en route to a local coffee shop with her daughter, encountered the unexpected roadblock.<\/p>\n
The resident of Safety Beach expressed that she was not surprised to see the familiar seal, which often frequents the coastal region extending to Rosebud. “I sat and watched with my daughter for over an hour to make sure he was safe,” she shared with ABC, noting their ongoing interest in the seal’s activities around the peninsula.<\/p>\n
It took wildlife rescuers several hours to arrive on the scene to safely guide the seal back to the water. Meanwhile, the incident was reported on the VicTraffic website, advising drivers to steer clear of the area and to anticipate delays.<\/p>\n
The alert issued by Victoria Police stated, “Traffic is being directed on Point Nepean Road, Dromana near Anthony’s Nose, due to a live seal on the roadway.” Such occurrences with seals are not uncommon for communities adjacent to Port Phillip Bay in Melbourne.<\/p>\n
In recent years, an elephant seal named Henry has been spotted at various locations, including Blairgowrie and Point Lonsdale, where it even caused damage by breaking the windows of a petrol station.
