Disha, a student of commerce at Alva\u2019s PU College in Moodabidri, located in the Dakshina Kannada district, achieved an impressive score of 600 out of 600 in the Karnataka II PU examinations, securing the top rank. This remarkable accomplishment is underscored by the personal tragedy she faced during the examination period.<\/p>\n
On the day she was set to take her economics exam, Disha\u2019s mother, Savitha, suffered a fatal accident and later passed away in the hospital. In the wake of this devastating loss, she chose to continue with her examinations despite advice from some family members to withdraw. Disha managed to sit for her Hindi and accountancy tests while also participating in the funeral arrangements.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was incredibly challenging for me to focus on my studies after losing my mother. However, my sister, teachers, and college staff provided me with immense support,\u201d Disha reflected.<\/p>\n
Aiming to become a Chartered Accountant, Disha feels she has honored her mother’s memory, who passed away on March 2.<\/p>\n
In an interview, Disha shared, \u201cMy mother passed away just a day before my English exam. By that time, I had already completed two tests. One of my lecturers kindly invited me to his home to help me cope with my grief. The encouragement from my college staff motivated me to persevere and complete my exams. Although it was a tough decision, I knew I could not let this opportunity slip away.\u201d<\/p>\n
The results for the II PU examinations were announced on April 9 by Karnataka’s Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa, revealing that 86.48% of students had successfully passed, a notable increase from the previous year’s 73.45%.<\/p>\n
The Science stream achieved the highest pass rate at 91.69%, followed by Commerce at 88.04% and Arts at 72.86%. In total, 546,698 out of 632,200 students passed, reflecting a significant improvement in overall performance compared to last year.<\/p>\n
Once again, female students outperformed their male counterparts, achieving a pass rate of 88.70% compared to 83.65% for boys. Both genders showed notable improvement from 2022, when the pass rates were 77.88% for girls and 68.20% for boys.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
