A charity co-founded by Prince Harry is pursuing a defamation lawsuit against him, as per court filings. Established in 2006 in memory of his late mother, Princess Diana, Sentebale aims to support young individuals affected by HIV and AIDS in southern Africa.<\/p>\n
Last year, the 41-year-old prince stepped down as the charity’s patron, citing irreparable breakdowns in his relationships with the chair and trustees, which he described as creating an “untenable situation.” Tensions within the organization escalated in March when the chair, Sophie Chandauka, publicly accused Prince Harry of bullying.<\/p>\n
Shortly before this public accusation, Harry and co-founder Prince Seeiso of Lesotho announced their resignations from Sentebale following the resignation of the trustees, who had demanded Chandauka\u2019s departure.<\/p>\n
In response to the allegations, the UK Charity Commission conducted an investigation that lasted several months. The commission concluded that there was no evidence of widespread bullying or harassment within the organization, including issues related to misogyny. It admonished all individuals involved for allowing the situation to unfold publicly, noting that it had significantly damaged the charity’s reputation and issued a plan to rectify governance issues.<\/p>\n
Now, Sentebale has formally filed a defamation claim against Prince Harry in London’s High Court. The lawsuit also names Mark Dyer, a close friend of Harry and former trustee of the charity, though specific details regarding the case have not been disclosed.<\/p>\n
Neither a representative for Prince Harry nor the charity has yet responded to requests for comments on the matter.
