A man has been taken into custody following an incident where he allegedly hurled a Molotov cocktail at the residence of OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, as confirmed by the company.<\/p>\n
According to both the San Francisco Police Department and OpenAI, there were no injuries reported in connection with the event.<\/p>\n
The occurrence took place around 4 a.m. on Friday when an individual reportedly launched an “incendiary destructive device” at the property, igniting a fire on an outside gate, as stated by the police.<\/p>\n
The suspect managed to flee the scene on foot; however, law enforcement quickly circulated a description of him to their officers.<\/p>\n
Approximately an hour later, at around 5 a.m., police were dispatched to OpenAI’s main office due to a report of a man threatening to set fire to the building. Officers recognized him as the same individual involved in the earlier incident, according to the police report.<\/p>\n
The 20-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested, and charges are expected to follow, as noted by the authorities.<\/p>\n
OpenAI reassured that the situation has been contained and that there is no ongoing risk to its facilities.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the company expressed gratitude for the prompt response from the San Francisco Police Department and acknowledged the city’s support in ensuring the safety of its employees. “We are cooperating with law enforcement as they conduct their investigation,” OpenAI stated.<\/p>\n
