Shortly after a 40-year-old farmer was fatally shot during his morning walk on Saturday, law enforcement in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, utilized CCTV footage from nearby cameras to identify the suspect. A search operation has commenced to apprehend the alleged perpetrator, who is reported to be the victim\u2019s neighbor.<\/p>\n
The deceased, Rajeev Kumar Singh, who was married to the pradhan of Devari village, Pratima Singh, was alone when the attacker approached him and fired at him from a close distance. Authorities believe that the murder may be related to an ongoing rivalry stemming from local panchayat elections.<\/p>\n
The incident was recorded by surveillance cameras in the vicinity, and the footage has been widely shared on social media. The video depicts the assailants waiting on a motorcycle; as Singh neared, one of them advanced and shot him before attempting to escape.<\/p>\n
Initially, the motorcycle struggled to start despite multiple attempts, which led the gunman to take over the ignition while his accomplice brandished a weapon to intimidate bystanders who had gathered after hearing the gunfire.<\/p>\n
Aparna Rajat Kaushik, the Superintendent of Police in Mirzapur, stated that investigators have gathered significant leads in the case and are exploring all possible avenues. She noted that the suspects have been pinpointed through technical surveillance methods.<\/p>\n
On Saturday morning, police received reports of a shooting in the Katra area and quickly dispatched a team to the site, where they transported the victim to a hospital; unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries en route.<\/p>\n
Initial investigations confirmed the victim\u2019s identity as Rajeev Singh, also referred to as Rinku Singh, who was the husband of Pratima Singh, the village pradhan. Authorities reviewed the CCTV recordings and managed to capture visuals of the assault, leading to the identification of one of the suspects as Hari Rajan Sonkar, a local resident of Devari village. Efforts are ongoing to ascertain the identity of a second suspect.<\/p>\n
Police reports indicate that Hari Rajan Sonkar and Rajeev Kumar Singh had a long-standing conflict related to the panchayat elections, which is believed to have motivated the attack. As the investigation progressed, officers discovered that the assailant had allegedly plotted the attack for some time and was aware of Singh\u2019s usual morning route.<\/p>\n
