The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted a search on Saturday at the home of former West Bengal education minister Partha Chatterjee in Kolkata as part of the ongoing investigation into the teacher recruitment scandal involving the state government.<\/p>\n
In addition to Chatterjee’s residence, officials from the ED are also examining an office associated with Prasanna Kumar Roy, another individual implicated in the case who is currently incarcerated.<\/p>\n
The ED has revealed that Chatterjee has been summoned to meet with the Investigating Officer regarding the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) scandal on three separate occasions but has consistently failed to attend, citing health issues. The agency’s statement indicated, “The ED has multiple cases against him concerning the recruitment of Primary Teachers, SSC Assistant Teachers, and SSC Group C and D personnel.”<\/p>\n
Chatterjee was taken into custody by the ED on July 23, 2022, due to his involvement in the extensive school jobs fraud that occurred during his time as the state’s education minister. At the moment of his arrest, he held the position of industries minister in the state.<\/p>\n
During earlier investigations in 2022, the ED discovered more than Rs 50 crore at the residence of his associate, Arpita Mukherjee. Following this revelation, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) dismissed him from his official roles and imposed a six-year suspension from the party. After being granted bail in all pending cases, Chatterjee was released from custody on November 11 of the previous year.<\/p>\n
Since his release, he has been living at his residence in Naktala, South Kolkata, and has not participated in political activities. Furthermore, he has not received a nomination from the TMC for the upcoming 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.<\/p>\n
Recently, the ED has escalated its investigations into various corruption allegations throughout West Bengal. On Saturday, TMC MLAs Sujit Bose and Rathin Ghosh were called to appear before the agency. While Bose did not attend the meeting in person, his son, Samudra Bose, represented him at the ED’s office.<\/p>\n
