A man has been apprehended for unlawfully entering a restricted section of an airport in the Republic of Ireland and reportedly damaging a U.S. military aircraft, according to police reports.<\/p>\n
The individual, who is in his 40s, was taken into custody on charges of criminal damage following the event that occurred on Saturday at Shannon Airport in County Clare.<\/p>\n
Video footage shared on social media seems to depict the suspect climbing onto a U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules transport plane that was stationed on a secluded taxiway. A spokesperson for the Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na noted in a statement, \u201cOn Saturday, April 11, 2026, an adult male entered an unauthorized area of Shannon Airport, located in County Clare. An adult male (aged in his 40s) was arrested for alleged criminal damage by garda\u00ed shortly before 11:00 AM and is currently being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station within the Clare\/Tipperary division. Investigations are ongoing.\u201d<\/p>\n
In addition to the Garda\u00ed, airport security personnel, the fire and rescue service at Shannon Airport, and members of the military stationed at the airport responded to the situation.<\/p>\n
As a result of the incident, airport operations were temporarily halted, leading to delays for two departing flights and placing one incoming flight from Lourdes, France, in a holding pattern.
