The Maharashtra government has begun implementing a new curriculum in accordance with NEP 2020, but the updated State Curriculum Framework (SCF) for School Education is still under consideration. According to the implementation strategy, curriculum updates for Classes 2, 3, 4, and 6 are set to take place in the upcoming academic year.<\/p>\n
While advancements in the curriculum for Classes 2, 3, and 4 are on schedule, with textbook development nearing completion and printing expected to commence shortly, the Class 6 curriculum is still in the finalization phase. This delay has pushed back the timelines for preparing and printing textbooks, causing concern among educators as the school year approaches.<\/p>\n
Teachers are expressing doubts about the feasibility of implementing the Class 6 revisions this year. A senior educator remarked, \u201cThe implementation plan has been in place since 2024, when the initial SCF was established. The SCERT should have taken the necessary steps to finalize the new curriculum.\u201d<\/p>\n
Some teaching professionals have proposed delaying the rollout of the new curriculum. \u201cRushing to finalize the curriculum and prepare textbooks seems pointless, especially since the current delays suggest that the textbooks may not be ready by June, when schools reopen after the summer break. Instead of keeping students waiting for new materials, we could introduce the updated curriculum in the next academic year,\u201d another teacher pointed out, emphasizing the need for adequate training for educators before the new syllabus is put into practice.<\/p>\n
Despite these concerns, officials from the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) express optimism about the timely availability of revised Class 6 textbooks.
