Renowned Indian vocalist Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday at Breach Candy Hospital after being admitted the previous evening due to severe fatigue and a chest infection. Her death signifies the conclusion of an illustrious musical career that lasted more than eighty years. Notably, in 2007, she collaborated on a duet with Australian cricketer Brett Lee.<\/p>\n
The song, titled \u2018You\u2019re the One for Me,\u2019 was featured in the album Asha and Friends, showcasing Lee singing Hindi lines alongside Bhosle, including the phrase \u201cHaan, main tumhara hu, tumhara hi rahunga.\u201d The track enjoyed immense popularity across generations upon its release.<\/p>\n
Reflecting on their collaboration in 2016, Lee expressed his enjoyment of working with Bhosle on the song. He recounted the origins of their partnership in his autobiography \u201cMy Life.\u201d The music video was filmed in 2006 while Lee was in India for the Champions Trophy.<\/p>\n
Lee described Bhosle as a delightful and gentle person with a fantastic sense of humor. He admitted that he was unsure of what to expect during the recording but thoroughly enjoyed the experience. He even kept the project secret from his teammates, claiming he was simply exploring the streets when he went for the shoot.<\/p>\n
The single \u2018You\u2019re the One for Me\u2019 quickly ascended to the top of the charts in India, debuting at number six before reaching number one and also performing well in South Africa. Four months after this memorable recording session, Lee met Bhosle again when she came to Sydney for a performance at the Opera House. She gifted him her compilation album, complete with a personal inscription, which he cherishes as one of his prized possessions.<\/p>\n
In addition to her film work, Bhosle ventured into independent music and various collaborations. Some of her notable projects include \u2018Dil Padosi Hai\u2019 with Gulzar and RD Burman, \u2018Jaanam Samjha Karo\u2019 with Leslie Lewis, and albums featuring Adnan Sami. Her collaboration on the album Legacy with Ustad Ali Akbar Khan earned her a Grammy Award, while \u2018You\u2019ve Stolen My Heart: Songs from RD Burman\u2019s Bollywood\u2019 garnered another nomination.
