The deteriorating state of basic infrastructure in Chajju Majra, located near Model Town along the Nijjar road in Kharar, has prompted residents to accuse the local administration of neglect, describing their living conditions as “hell-like.”<\/p>\n
Vineet Joshi, a senior leader of the Punjab BJP, issued a warning that a public protest would be initiated unless immediate measures were taken to address these pressing issues.<\/p>\n
During his visit to the community on Sunday, Joshi underscored the dire circumstances faced by residents in various neighborhoods, including Royal Residency, Dream Land, Govind Enclave, Alivista Greens, LG Villa, and Drishti Avenue.<\/p>\n
Residents expressed their frustrations to Joshi regarding the “extremely poor” performance of the Kharar Municipal Committee, highlighting that a nearly two-kilometer stretch of road has remained unfinished for over four years.<\/p>\n
The road, they noted, is unpaved and often turns into a muddy quagmire during rainfall, exacerbated by overflowing sewage and inadequate drainage. This situation creates hazards for vehicles, which frequently skid or become stuck, while pedestrians find it increasingly challenging to navigate the area. “Simply walking here has become a significant ordeal,” residents lamented.<\/p>\n
In addition to road concerns, locals raised alarms about sanitation issues, claiming that ongoing sewer overflows and a lack of an effective drainage system have led to stagnant dirty water accumulating around homes and roadways. This has resulted in unpleasant odors and a surge in mosquito populations, heightening the risk of disease and creating an unsafe environment, particularly for children and the elderly.<\/p>\n
Joshi remarked, “Residents are paying considerable taxes related to the purchase and construction of their properties yet are denied essential civic services. The Kharar Municipal Committee is one of the wealthiest civic bodies in Punjab, boasting fixed deposits worth hundreds of crores, but its performance reflects a complete failure to serve the public.”<\/p>\n
Joshi also held Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Anmol Gagan Mann responsible, asserting that the current situation highlights a lack of accountability within local governance. “The AAP government is directly accountable for the ongoing crisis in Chajju Majra and other regions of Kharar, as the state government controls the hiring and transfer of municipal officials,” he stated.<\/p>\n
