On Monday, the Punjab Police announced the resolution of the grenade attack incident that occurred at the Bhindi Saida police station in Amritsar. Authorities apprehended six suspects and confiscated two pistols during the operation. According to Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, initial investigations have indicated that the individuals were linked to a module supported by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan.<\/p>\n
DGP Yadav stated, \u201cThe suspects maintained contact with a handler based in Pakistan, who was orchestrating terrorist activities within Punjab.\u201d He further noted that the Amritsar Rural police collaborated with the Faridkot police in the investigation, which led to the arrests.<\/p>\n
Yadav explained that on the night of March 29-30, the suspects obtained hand grenades, conducted surveillance, and executed the attack. The group had been radicalized, with motivations to target police installations in exchange for significant financial rewards for their actions.<\/p>\n
The arrested individuals have been identified as Baljit Singh from Chak Dogra village, Prabh Singh from Chota Fatehwal, Rajbir Singh from Baba Gum Chak Ballarwal, Sukhpreet Singh from Thehra Rajputan, Ajaydeep Singh (also known as Ajay or Gazni) from Lopoke, and Sahib Singh (alias Saba) from Sarangdev, all located in Amritsar.<\/p>\n
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Border Range, Sandeep Goel, revealed during the investigation that Baljit Singh and Prabh Singh had obtained two hand grenades from a site near Gharinda. It was also discovered that they had been promised a substantial sum of money for the attack, yet they ultimately received only a meager amount from their Pakistani handler.<\/p>\n
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for Amritsar Rural, Suhail Qasim Mir, detailed that on the day of the attack, Baljit Singh, Prabh Singh, and Rajbir Singh rode a motorcycle towards the Bhindi Saida police station. They parked the motorcycle about 1-2 kilometers away and approached the rear of the police station on foot, traversing agricultural fields.<\/p>\n
According to Mir, Baljit Singh and Prabh Singh threw hand grenades at the police station while Rajbir Singh filmed the attack. Following the incident, they escaped through the fields and concealed themselves in wheat crops for approximately three to four hours. The SSP added that the suspects later disposed of their clothing in a nearby drain, approximately one kilometer from the police station, to eliminate evidence before retrieving their motorcycle around 5 am and fleeing the scene.<\/p>\n
SSP for Faridkot, Dr. Pragya Jain, shared that an intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of the two suspects in Faridkot, with an additional four apprehended later in Amritsar. An FIR was filed on March 30 at the Bhindi Saida police station, citing multiple sections of the Explosive Substances Act, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and relevant provisions of the Arms Act.<\/p>\n
