India and Iran have established communication regarding the transit of Indian vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. An Iranian diplomat informed The Indian Express that a new shipment of approximately 20,000 kilograms of medicine from India is scheduled to depart on Monday night.<\/p>\n
To date, Iran has received a total of 45,000 kilograms of medical supplies in two previous shipments since the onset of the conflict. The upcoming delivery will be transported via a Mahaan air flight from Delhi to Mashhad, where it will be distributed across the country.<\/p>\n
This medical aid primarily targets Iranians who have sustained injuries due to attacks by the United States and Israel prior to the two-week ceasefire initiated on April 9.<\/p>\n
The Iranian embassy has reported that over 30,000 individuals have been injured in the conflict, including 4,989 women and 1,997 children under the age of 18, with 70 of those being toddlers under two years old.<\/p>\n
The Iranian embassy in New Delhi has acquired these medicines through donations from the Indian public, with a total worth of approximately 100,000 Euros (around 1.09 crore rupees), as stated by the Iranian diplomat.<\/p>\n
In his first briefing since the conflict began on February 28, Iranian Ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, confirmed on Monday that ongoing discussions are taking place between India and Iran regarding the navigation of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
Fathali expressed gratitude for the support from the Indian government, stating, \u201cWe maintain strong communication with Indian authorities. We wish to assist the Indian government as they have assisted us during these challenging times, reflecting our robust relations.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cWe uphold the principle of freedom of navigation and are committed to abiding by international law, but it is essential to recognize that the Strait of Hormuz is within the territorial waters of Iran and Oman.\u201d<\/p>\n
When questioned about whether the Indian government is required to pay for the passage of their ships through the Strait of Hormuz, Fathali suggested that inquiries should be directed to the Indian government regarding any potential payments made thus far.<\/p>\n
The ambassador also emphasized that both nations share mutual interests and expressed optimism about the future of their relationship, stating, \u201cOur high-ranking officials believe that both Iran and India have aligned interests, and we hope to sustain a strong relationship moving forward, especially during these trying times.\u201d<\/p>\n
Recalling conversations between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Fathali noted, \u201cIran and India are linked by shared interests and a common destiny.\u201d<\/p>\n
In response to a question regarding the conditions necessary for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, the ambassador reiterated Iran\u2019s commitment to freedom of navigation and adherence to international law. He remarked, \u201cThe situation will dictate the course of action. We remain committed to international law and navigation rights. We will soon announce a mechanism to all nations regarding the Strait of Hormuz.\u201d<\/p>\n
