Sources indicate that his successor is expected to be inaugurated the following day, with a ceremony likely attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other prominent national figures. The new Chief Minister is projected to come from the BJP, which would mark a significant moment as the party’s electoral history in Bihar dates back to the 1962 elections when the Bhartiya Jan Sangh, the BJP’s predecessor, secured three Assembly seats.<\/p>\n
Current Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary is viewed as the leading candidate for the Chief Minister position, with speculation that Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, may take on the role of Deputy Chief Minister. To prevent the emergence of a dual power structure within the JD(U), it is suggested that the party may advocate for a single Deputy CM. Under the current power-sharing arrangement, both Deputy CMs are from the BJP\u2014Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha.<\/p>\n
Although the BJP and RSS are reportedly exploring various options for replacing Nitish Kumar, insiders maintain that Samrat Choudhary remains the preferred choice, enjoying support from the JD(U) and other NDA coalition members.<\/p>\n
According to JD(U) sources, Nitish Kumar is expected to present the name of his successor during an NDA meeting on Tuesday. A JD(U) leader emphasized that the entire NDA coalition is unified in expecting Nitish Kumar to announce his successor.<\/p>\n
It is anticipated that the NDA will retain most of Nitish Kumar’s Cabinet, with only minor adjustments. BJP leaders Vijay Kumar Sinha, Mangal Pandey, and Dilip Jaiswal are likely to be reinstated as ministers, while the JD(U) may introduce some new members.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, Nitish Kumar, who has held the Chief Minister role for nearly two decades cumulatively, has begun relocating his belongings from the official chief ministerial residence to his new home at 7, Circular Road.<\/p>\n
This resignation would signify the conclusion of an important chapter in Bihar’s political landscape. Nitish Kumar first took office as Chief Minister on November 24, 2005, and has been sworn in as chief minister a total of ten times. His coalition has achieved significant electoral victories since 2010, winning 206 of 243 seats in 2010, 178 seats in 2015, and 202 seats in 2020.<\/p>\n
