Starting this Saturday, the Museum of Art and Photography in Bengaluru will host an exhibition titled “Warrior Garments” by Dutch artist Afra Eisma, exploring themes of anger, resilience, and defiance.<\/p>\n
Eisma, a participant in the #MeToo movement in the Netherlands that aimed to highlight sexual exploitation in the arts, has channeled her emotions into textile art pieces crafted from silk, organza, and various other fabrics. In addition to the fabric works, her exhibit includes watercolor text, symbols, and her own poetry, all displayed on the walls of the gallery.<\/p>\n Eisma’s textile creations have been in development for several years, with her inaugural exhibition taking place in 2021. \u201cDiscussing sexual violence can often feel isolating, yet it is a widespread issue. I felt compelled to address this subject more openly to help dismantle the associated taboos. Nearly all women encounter this in some form,\u201d she remarked.<\/p>\n The artist utilized a combination of hand and machine sewing methods to create her garments from various fabrics.
