This purchase might come as a surprise to some, considering the past tensions between Neville, a former Manchester United defender, and Goldbridge, whose often critical and passionate comments about Manchester United have garnered both criticism and a sizable following. Neville has previously expressed disdain for \u201cthose bloody YouTubers\u201d before transitioning into the role himself. In a past Twitter exchange, he had indicated he would not invite Goldbridge, whose real name is Brent Di Cesare, onto The Overlap, a sentiment he acknowledged with a hint of humor.<\/p>\n
Despite their differences, Neville noted that he and Goldbridge do not harbor grudges and can share a light-hearted relationship. The aim of the acquisition is to leverage the growing interest in football analysis and commentary beyond live match broadcasts. While live football remains the pinnacle of excitement for many, Neville highlighted that The Overlap is focused on \u201cthe noise segment\u201d\u2014the ongoing discourse surrounding football, even in the absence of matches. Goldbridge’s channels are among the most recognized football-related platforms on YouTube, and Neville’s goal is to transform them into the leading sources for Manchester United and general football news. The United Stand, with 2.26 million subscribers, holds the title of the largest Manchester United fan channel, while That\u2019s Football, which has 1.46 million subscribers, covers a wider range of Premier League content.<\/p>\n
As part of the agreement, The United Stand will introduce new programming, including Stick to United, which features former players and journalists, as well as The Daily United, a daily news show focused on Manchester United.<\/p>\n
Plans for That\u2019s Football include a complete rebranding and the launch of a daily football news and podcast channel. This acquisition marks The Overlap’s first significant move since Global, a major European commercial radio entity, took a controlling interest in January, demonstrating YouTube’s growing impact on sports media.
