As the West Bengal Assembly elections approach in just nine days, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been actively campaigning in the state. At a large roadshow in Kaliaganj, North Dinajpur, he declared that if the BJP gains power, the construction of the Babri Masjid will not be permitted in West Bengal. He contrasted his party’s commitment to the Ram Mandir’s construction, which he attributed to Prime Minister Modi, with the alleged opposition from the Congress, TMC, and DMK. As the state prepares to celebrate Poila Boishak, the Bengali New Year, Shah called on the citizens to reject the TMC during this festive occasion. He promised that after the BJP forms a government on May 5, they would work to remove illegal immigrants from West Bengal and the nation, citing concerns over national security and job competition for youth.<\/p>\n
He further alleged that Banerjee has blocked the allocation of 600 acres of land to the Border Security Force for fencing purposes. Commenting on the health infrastructure in North Bengal, Shah stated it has significantly declined under TMC rule. He pledged that the BJP would establish an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), a dedicated cancer hospital, an IIT, an IIM, and a sports university in the region.<\/p>\n
Moreover, Shah committed to addressing the needs of the Rajbanshi community by advocating for their language to be included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. He announced plans for a tribal university and the development of Darjeeling as an eco-adventure hub, promising the new government would tackle the issues facing both Darjeeling and the Gorkha community.<\/p>\n
Shah also outlined various initiatives aimed at empowering women, including a monthly financial assistance of Rs 3,000, a 33 percent reservation in government jobs, and free state bus travel starting May 5. He pledged Rs 21,000 and six nutrition kits for pregnant women, while unemployed youth would receive Rs 3,000 monthly, and farmers would be allocated an annual support of Rs 9,000. He promised to create one crore jobs over the next five years and ensure fair pricing for potatoes, allowing farmers to sell their products in other states.<\/p>\n
In emphasizing the achievements under the Modi administration, Shah pointed out the abrogation of Article 370 and highlighted the government’s response to terrorist threats, contrasting it with the Congress’s previous approach. He criticized Banerjee and her nephew as leaders of the “Tukre Tukre Gang” and vowed to restore polluted rivers, curb smuggling, and enhance safety in North Bengal, referencing a statement regarding the strategic importance of Siliguri.<\/p>\n
At a public meeting in Mathurapur BSS High School Football Ground, Shah reiterated the BJP’s commitment to implementing a Uniform Civil Code, stating that polygamy would not be tolerated and that the party would combat issues like love jihad and land jihad. He also addressed the recent incident in Malda where judicial officers faced protests while conducting SIR work. Shah promised that once the BJP is in power, every mandol in Malda would feature cold storage facilities. He accused Banerjee of misusing flood relief funds allocated by the Modi government for Malda.<\/p>\n
