Heightened tensions were reported in the districts of Kasganj, Lakhimpur Kheri, and Agra following clashes and acts of vandalism during the celebration of B.R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
In Kasganj, a conflict erupted between Dalit and Yadav community members regarding a procession that was to pass through a neighborhood. Meanwhile, in Lakhimpur Kheri, two factions within the Dalit community clashed over the installation of an Ambedkar statue, leading to violent stone-throwing and the torching of a police vehicle.<\/p>\n
The incident in Kasganj took place in Chahak Gunar village, where individuals reportedly from the Yadav community attempted to prevent the Ambedkar procession from proceeding. They obstructed the roadway with tractor-trolleys and other vehicles, seeking to redirect the procession. Supporters of Ambedkar maintained that they had historically used that route for such events.<\/p>\n
Law enforcement officials arrived promptly to the scene to mediate and urged the crowd to clear the way. However, they faced resistance, with villagers clashing with police and hurling stones at them.<\/p>\n
Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Singh stated that a moderate amount of force was employed to disperse the crowd and facilitate the procession’s passage. One police constable sustained injuries during the stone-throwing incident, and authorities apprehended 23 individuals for their involvement in the unrest.<\/p>\n
Additional Superintendent of Police Sushil Kumar Ganga Prasad indicated that a case would be filed regarding the disturbances. The Superintendent noted that the reasons behind the Yadav community’s interference in the procession were still being investigated, with video evidence being examined for further actions.<\/p>\n
In Lakhimpur Kheri’s Maigalganj area, clashes broke out between two Dalit groups concerning the erection of an Ambedkar statue on a village panchayat-owned plot. According to Lucknow Range Inspector General Kiran S, a group of youths arrived at the site in the evening with the statue. A resident from the same community raised concerns, alleging that the youths intended to claim the land for themselves.<\/p>\n
The situation escalated into a physical confrontation as tensions rose. Police responded to the scene but were also targeted by the warring factions, which included stone-throwing and the burning of a Mahindra Bolero police vehicle. The authorities managed to disperse the individuals using mild force.<\/p>\n
Law enforcement has since restored calm in the area, with ongoing efforts to identify those responsible for the disturbances.<\/p>\n
In Agra, a group of young individuals carrying blue flags ascended a platform where a structure representing Lord Parshuram’s weapon is located and placed their flags there. A video of this incident spread across social media, leading to a large turnout of people who opposed the act.
