In an effort to bolster border connectivity in Rajasthan, the Ministry of Railways has fast-tracked three significant railway projects, which collectively span 827 kilometers. Upon completion, these initiatives are set to enhance regional transport links, support local populations, and stimulate economic development. The projects are managed under the North Western Railway (NWR) zone.
The national railway operator is focused on integrating remote areas into the broader rail network, ensuring that even the most isolated communities have access to essential services.
Amit Sudarshan, the Chief Public Relations Officer for NWR, informed Indianexpress.com that initiatives are in progress to fortify the rail infrastructure in Rajasthan’s border regions. He also noted that under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), the railway stations in Jaisalmer and Barmer have undergone significant redevelopment to enhance passenger facilities.
According to statements from NWR, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been finalized for a new 187-kilometer railway line linking Anupgarh to Bikaner, with the project currently in the advanced stages of approval. Additionally, a Final Location Survey (FLS) is being conducted for two other new railway lines.
For the fiscal year 2026-27, the Ministry of Railways has earmarked a budget of Rs 10,228 crore for projects in Rajasthan. Furthermore, approximately Rs 90,659 crore is being invested in ongoing initiatives focused on track expansion, the redevelopment of stations, and safety-related infrastructure improvements.
Last month, the national railway authority approved the FLS for a new rail route connecting Rajasthan and Haryana. This proposed 191-kilometer line will extend from Rewari to Jaipur via Neemrana, aimed at improving connectivity in the region and its surroundings.
