A 19-year-old woman has tragically lost her life following a dog attack at a residence in Essex.
Authorities have detained a 37-year-old male on allegations of having control over a dog that was dangerously out of control, resulting in fatal injuries. He is currently being held in police custody.
Stuart Hooper, assistant chief constable, expressed his condolences, stating, “This incident is likely to be shocking for the local community. My thoughts, along with those of everyone at Essex police, are with the family and friends of the woman who passed away.”
Essex police reported that they were summoned to a home in Dunmow on Friday evening, where they discovered the young woman suffering from severe injuries. Unfortunately, she was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe that the woman was attacked by a dog at a property located on Long Hide in the village of Leaden Roding. To ensure public safety, the dog involved has been taken into custody by the police.
Statistics revealed that in 2024, there were 31,920 recorded instances of dog attacks on individuals in England and Wales, marking a 2% increase compared to the previous year, based on data obtained through freedom of information requests by the BBC from various police departments.
The police department announced that officers will be present in the area on Saturday and encouraged the community to come forward with any additional information related to the incident.
