Bengaluru’s HAL Museum Unveils Cutting-Edge Revamp Featuring AI Holograms and Interactive Cockpit Simulators

At the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) museum in Bengaluru, a transformation towards a more engaging visitor experience is evident, thanks to two prominent exhibits: the ‘Wings of Valor’ simulation and the AI-powered hologram, Tejasvi. These installations are enhancing how guests interact with HAL’s rich history, merging traditional storytelling with hands-on learning.

The ‘Wings of Valor’ offers a compact yet immersive experience. Visitors are secured in seats that simulate flight as they embark on a CGI-animated adventure showcasing the Indian Air Force’s history and HAL’s significant role within it. The simulation employs rocking chairs and synchronized airflow to create an authentic sensation of flying.

Tejasvi, the AI assistant, personalizes the experience further. Displayed through a holographic medium, Tejasvi enables guests to enter their names and inquire about specific topics related to HAL’s aircraft, systems, and historical achievements. This interactive feature eliminates the need for navigating numerous static displays, delivering direct and concise information tailored to each visitor’s interests.

The newly renovated HAL Heritage Centre and Aerospace Museum was inaugurated on April 10 by Dr. D K Sunil, the CMD of HAL. This renovation, carried out over several months, marks the most extensive upgrade since the museum’s establishment in 2001, officially reopening to the public on April 13.

During the inauguration, Dr. Sunil highlighted the museum’s evolution from a mere display venue to a more dynamic environment. “The reimagined design and engaging exhibits of the Museum now provide a vibrant experience that connects visitors to the spirit of innovation, engineering excellence, and national service that characterizes Hindustan Aeronautics Limited,” he stated.

The event was graced by senior officials, including Dr. Barenya Senapati (Director of Finance), Ravi K. (Director of Operations), M G Balasubrahmanya (Director of HR), and Ajay Kumar Shrivastava (Director of Engineering and R&D).

The museum features advanced installations such as a life-size replica of the Hindustan Turbo Fan Engine (HTFE-25) and a 3D anamorphic runway showcasing HAL’s iconic aircraft, including Prachand and Tejas. Other notable attractions include kinetic art displays and a hologram fan exhibit.

At the core of the museum lies ‘Wings of Bharat,’ a specially designed multi-sensory presentation housed in a hangar-like environment that honors HAL’s national contributions. A holobox installation presents ‘Tejasvi,’ the holographic avatar that conveys HAL’s legacy and achievements in an interactive manner.

Additionally, the museum displays intricate 3D models of HAL’s leading products, encompassing fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft, civil aviation, engines, systems, and space technologies. Guests can delve into archival materials and significant milestones via a digital flipbook, while a Dhruv cockpit simulator provides an engaging, hands-on flying experience.

A dedicated engagement zone for children is designed to spark creativity and curiosity, featuring interactive games, flying machine construction, quizzes, and art stations. An immersive space shuttle module offers insights into space exploration, and an augmented reality photo booth allows visitors to capture unique moments alongside HAL aircraft in vibrant virtual settings.

The outdoor aircraft park showcases life-sized models of renowned platforms, including the HF-24 Marut, Ajeet, Lakshya Pilotless Target Aircraft, LCA Tejas, and the Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter, among others.

Located on Old Airport Road in Marathahalli, Bengaluru, the museum operates daily from 9 AM to 4:30 PM and includes a souvenir shop and cafeteria for visitors.
