On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu disclosed that he receives “daily” updates from the United States concerning ongoing negotiations with Iran.
During a cabinet meeting, Netanyahu recounted a phone call with U.S. Vice President JD Vance that occurred shortly after the American delegation concluded its initial in-person discussions with Iranian officials in Islamabad.
Netanyahu expressed Israel’s backing for the U.S. blockade of all Iranian ports, including the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz. He mentioned that Vance reached out to him while returning from Islamabad, emphasizing that it is routine for the Trump administration to keep him informed about the status of these negotiations.
In his remarks, Netanyahu stated, “I spoke yesterday with Vice President JD Vance. He called me from his plane on the way back from Islamabad. He briefed me in detail, as members of this administration do daily, on the progress of the negotiations; in this case, the collapse of the negotiations.”
According to Netanyahu, the breakdown in negotiations stemmed from the “American side,” which he claimed was not prepared to accept Iran’s overt breaches of the agreement that had brought them to the negotiating table.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi previously noted that Tehran engaged sincerely with the U.S. to seek an end to hostilities but faced significant challenges just before finalizing the Islamabad MoU, citing maximalist demands and shifting objectives.
In an official statement, Netanyahu reiterated Israel’s support for President Trump’s decision to implement a naval blockade against Iran, confirming that his administration is in close coordination with Washington regarding this strategy.
Netanyahu stated, “Iran violated the rules (of the peace talks in Pakistan), President Trump decided to impose a naval blockade. We, of course, support this firm position, and we are in constant coordination with the United States.”
