Detectives in Victoria are currently looking into allegations made by Australian actress Ruby Rose, who claims she was sexually assaulted by American pop star Katy Perry in 2010.
Rose shared her allegations in a post on social media, which has since been removed, stating that the incident occurred at a nightclub located in Melbourne’s central business district.
On Tuesday evening, the 40-year-old actress provided an update, indicating that the police have advised her not to speak further about the matter. “As of this afternoon, I have finalized all of my reports. This means I am no longer able to comment, repost, or talk publicly about any of those cases, or the individuals involved,” she stated.
For those affected by similar issues, several sexual assault support services are available, including:
- 1800 Respect National Helpline
- Men’s Referral Service (24-hour crisis line): 131 114
- Victims of Crime Helpline
In response to inquiries regarding the allegations, a spokesperson for Victoria Police confirmed that an investigation is underway into reports of a “historical sexual assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010.” The spokesperson added, “Police have been informed that the incident took place at a licensed venue in Melbourne’s CBD.”
Katy Perry has firmly refuted the allegations through a statement issued to various media outlets. “The claims being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose regarding Katy Perry are not only entirely false but also dangerously reckless,” a representative for Perry stated. “Ms. Rose has a documented history of making serious accusations on social media against numerous individuals, all of which have been consistently denied by those mentioned.”
The two garnered attention in August 2010 when they made an unexpected appearance together at a high school formal in Melbourne.
