Benjamin Nathaniel Bruce, 26, is facing numerous charges, including sexual penetration without consent, indecent assault, and acts causing bodily harm. During the trial’s opening day, Prosecutor Adam Ebell stated that Mr. Bruce is accused of targeting multiple women over several years, despite their clear disinterest in his advances.
According to Mr. Ebell, the allegations include instances where Mr. Bruce physically assaulted the women, such as punching, kicking, and throwing objects at them, as well as applying pressure to their necks. He emphasized that these actions were not merely misunderstandings in a sexual context.
Mr. Ebell further described Mr. Bruce’s behavior as indicative of a pattern of violence towards women he was romantically involved with, highlighting instances of coercive control. The court heard accounts of one woman being punched in the nose, choked, and even held upside down during violent encounters. She reportedly sustained bruises due to non-consensual rough handling during sexual activities.
In another account presented in court, it was revealed that Mr. Bruce exhibited violent behavior during intercourse, including slapping a woman without her consent. There was an instance where he allegedly pulled her by the hair into a bedroom and constricted her throat. Following these incidents, Mr. Bruce is said to have apologized, even offering strawberries as a gesture of remorse. He allegedly justified his actions by stating, “I didn’t want to do that, it’s just the way I grew up.”
The trial is expected to continue for a duration of four weeks.
