Discovery of human remains in charred, isolated residence close to Bundaberg

Authorities have announced the discovery of human remains at a residence that was devastated by a fire on Saturday evening in rural Queensland.

A 75-year-old man and a 79-year-old woman, who were residents of the property located in the isolated area of Good Night, near Bundaberg, have not yet been located.

Forensic teams are currently working to identify the remains.

The incident occurred at a home on Booyal Crossing Road, where emergency services arrived at 9:15 PM to find the structure engulfed in flames. Nine crews from the Queensland Fire Department responded after receiving multiple emergency calls.

The fire was extinguished by 11:30 PM, but the single-storey house suffered a complete collapse of its roof and was rendered uninhabitable.

Bundaberg Police Inspector Grant Marcus indicated that the investigation would consider the fire suspicious until the precise cause can be determined. Inspectors were unable to commence a thorough examination of the site until Monday due to safety concerns, and the removal of the roof was completed yesterday.

Ongoing efforts to clear debris from the property are in progress, with drone technology being utilized to provide an aerial perspective of the scene. Inspector Marcus mentioned that this footage allows investigators to focus on specific areas of the house and may help in identifying the origin of the fire.

Law enforcement is urging anyone with relevant information or photographs that could aid the investigation to come forward.
