Kanye West, the American rapper also recognized as Ye, has decided to delay his scheduled concert in Marseille, France.

In a message posted on X, the 48-year-old artist explained that he reached this conclusion “after much thought and consideration.” His performance was originally slated for June 11 at the Orange Velodrome, which is Marseille’s largest stadium.

In his follow-up statement, West expressed his understanding of the complexities surrounding his situation, emphasizing, “I know it takes time to understand the sincerity of my commitment to make amends. I take full responsibility for what’s mine, but I don’t want to put my fans in the middle of it.” He further stated, “My fans are everything to me. Looking forward to the next shows. See you at the top of the globe.”

Reports indicate that French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez has been advocating against West’s performance in the city. Furthermore, Marseille’s mayor, Benoit Payan, publicly declared in March that the rapper was not welcome, asserting, “I refuse to let Marseille become a showcase for those who promote hatred and unapologetic Nazism.”

This decision follows West’s recent complications with various countries due to his controversial remarks and actions. Earlier this month, the UK denied him entry due to his previous antisemitic statements and his glorification of Nazism, which arose after he was set to headline the Wireless Festival in London this July. Last year, he was also barred from entering Australia following the release of his song “Heil Hitler,” which endorses Nazi ideology.

Additionally, West promoted a T-shirt featuring a swastika on his website. He later issued a full-page apology in the Wall Street Journal, attributing his past behavior to an undiagnosed brain injury and untreated bipolar disorder, while also denouncing his former admiration for Adolf Hitler.

Despite these challenges, West has continued to perform in the United States and Mexico City throughout the year.
