Akshay Kumar has dedicated over 35 years to the film industry, establishing himself as one of its most adaptable talents, engaging in a range of genres including comedy, action, romance, and horror. Having observed the transformation of filmmaking throughout his extensive career, the actor is now convinced that Indian cinema is experiencing a notable transition, and he is eager to be a part of this change.
In a discussion with Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube platform, Akshay expressed his willingness to collaborate with contemporary directors such as Aditya Dhar and Sandeep Reddy Vanga. He remarked, “If either of these filmmakers believes that I am a fit for their projects, I welcome them to reach out to me. However, it is crucial that they present a suitable role for me, and I must also be comfortable with it. I have a desire to take on an action movie.”
Reflecting on the evolution of cinema, Akshay Kumar highlighted films like RRR and Baahubali, commending director SS Rajamouli for his grand narrative style.
“Both RRR and Baahubali exemplify a unique approach to filmmaking. The storytelling is larger than life, featuring scenes like a single individual commanding ten elephants while the director emphasizes the strength in his forearms. This demonstrates the director’s vision, and it was executed beautifully. These films showcase a different dimension of filmmaking, illustrating how grand and epic it can be,” he stated.
In addition, Akshay shared his thoughts on Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s films, Kabir Singh and Animal, noting their innovative representation of anger on screen. He drew parallels between their impact and the legendary “angry young man” era made famous by Amitabh Bachchan.
Akshay also praised the film Dhurandhar, featuring Ranveer Singh, commending its writing and depth.
“Regarding Dhurandhar, the film’s exploration of the country was impressive. It was exceptionally well-written, addressing every pertinent question. It was evident that the creators had conducted thorough research, weaving rich information into a narrative firmly grounded in reality. The execution was nuanced and artistically crafted, transforming real-life elements into a spectacular cinematic experience,” he added.
Concluding his insights on the evolving film landscape, Akshay stated, “Cinema is transforming. If I am presented with opportunities to be involved in such projects, I would be more than willing to participate.”
