ZANZIBAR, Tanzania — An American man is currently in police custody in Zanzibar following the suspicious death of his partner, which occurred after a heated argument at their hotel.

Joseph Isaac McCann, aged 45, was interrogated by law enforcement on Monday, just four days after his partner, Ashly Robinson, who was popularly known online as Ashlee Jenae, was discovered deceased in her hotel room.

Zuberi Chembera, the Deputy Director of Investigations in Zanzibar, declined to provide any comments on the matter on Thursday, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

According to police reports, eyewitnesses stated that the couple checked into the Zuri Hotel on April 4 and had been involved in frequent disputes leading up to the night of April 8. On that evening, hotel staff intervened and requested McCann to relocate to a different villa, situated about a ten-minute walk from their original room.

A short time later, a hotel employee discovered Robinson unresponsive in a closet, with a belt around her neck. She was subsequently transported to a hospital, where she passed away the following day.

The family of the deceased informed CBS News that McCann had contacted them to relay that something had occurred, but it was the hotel management that later informed them of their daughter’s death. The parents are now calling for a thorough investigation and transparency regarding the events surrounding her passing.
