The Sunrisers Hyderabad achieved their initial victory at home in IPL 2026, securing a 57-run win over the Rajasthan Royals, marking their second triumph of the season.
Two standout performers in this match were newcomers Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain, who together delivered impressive bowling figures of 8 wickets for 58 runs, leading their team to success. Varun Aaron, the bowling coach, emphasized that he had urged his bowlers to savor the experience of their debut, as it is a unique milestone in a cricketer’s career. He expressed his desire to see them enjoying the game, or he would be quite displeased.
“My primary advice to them was to relish the game today because a debut is a once-in-a-lifetime experience in any format of cricket. Considering their journey and their performance today, it’s significant, and enjoying the game is vital. I told them before the match that if I didn’t see them enjoying themselves, I would be quite upset. Thankfully, they embraced the moment, and we all had a great time,” Aaron remarked during the post-match press briefing.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Praful Hinge, and Lhuan-dre Pretorius were highlighted as key players leading up to the match, with Praful Hinge making a remarkable debut.
Varun Aaron also acknowledged the SRH management for supporting his recommendations to acquire Praful and Sakib Hussain during the auction, where they were signed at the base price of 30 lakhs each. “I had observed these bowlers previously and suggested their names to the management and the coaching staff. However, picking players at the auction requires collective agreement, so the credit goes to the team for believing in these players,” he added.
During the match, the buzz surrounding Vaibhav Sooryavanshi quickly dissipated when young Praful dismissed him with a clever short delivery in the second innings, leading to his wicket being taken by Nitish Kumar Reddy.
In an interview after the match, Praful shared, “The highlight for me was taking the wicket of Sooryavanshi, who was in good form. I had mentioned to a few people that I would dismiss him on my very first ball, whether through a bouncer or some other means. I was determined to get his wicket right away, and that was my strategy. Varun bhai also provided significant support.”
Meanwhile, Aaron clarified that his role in the strategy was merely guiding Praful on the angle from which to bowl. “We discussed that he wanted to bowl around the wicket, but I advised him to stick to over the wicket. I was confident he could take the wicket,” he said.
“Ultimately, it’s a team effort,” Aaron acknowledged. “The credit belongs to Praful for his determination to get Vaibhav out. He had the mindset that he could dismiss him, having done so before. The plan and the conviction were all his, and I am thrilled for him.”
