Tasmanian environmental attorney Vanessa Bleyer is set to enter federal politics, having been selected to succeed outgoing Greens senator Peter Whish-Wilson.
Bleyer emerged victorious from a ballot among four candidates vying for the Senate position left vacant by Whish-Wilson’s retirement. The announcement of her success was made on Tuesday afternoon after a vote conducted by the Tasmanian Electoral Commission.
Previously, Bleyer was the second Senate candidate for the Greens during the last federal election, where Nick McKim successfully retained his seat. She will officially assume her Senate role once Whish-Wilson completes his term, which is anticipated to happen later this year.
