Authorities in Victoria are currently examining allegations made by Australian actress Ruby Rose against American singer Katy Perry, claiming that Perry sexually assaulted her at a nightclub in Melbourne more than ten years ago. Perry has firmly rejected these accusations.
On Wednesday, the Victoria police issued a statement confirming that their Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) is looking into a reported historical sexual assault that supposedly took place in Melbourne in 2010. The police noted that the incident is said to have occurred at a licensed venue in the city’s central business district.
Given that the investigation is still in progress, police representatives indicated that they would not provide further comments at this time.
This week, Rose took to social media to assert, “Katy Perry sexually assaulted me at the Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne. Who cares what she thinks?” This statement followed her reaction to Perry’s comments regarding Justin Bieber’s performance at the Coachella music festival.
Perry’s camp responded to the allegations through a representative, who stated, “The claims being shared on social media by Ruby Rose regarding Katy Perry are not only completely false but also recklessly damaging. Ms. Rose has a documented history of making serious allegations against various individuals on social media, allegations that have consistently been denied by those implicated.”
Representatives for both Perry and Rose were approached for further statements.
Additionally, Rose mentioned on the Threads platform that she was preparing to report the incident to the police. She indicated that she had recently been in Melbourne, as seen in her other social media updates.
On Tuesday evening, Rose provided an update stating, “As of this afternoon, I have completed all of my reports. This means I can no longer comment, repost, or discuss publicly any of the cases or the individuals involved. This is a standard request from the police and, in many ways, quite a relief. I can now begin the healing process and move forward.”
Reports from 2010 indicate that Perry and Rose were out together in Melbourne on the night of August 6, including a visit to the Spice Market nightclub. It was also reported that Perry had unexpectedly attended a high school formal at the Grand Hyatt, the same location where the Spice Market was situated.
