Essential Insights: What to Know Before the Release of CBSE Class 10 Results for 2026

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is preparing to release the results for the board examinations in the upcoming days this month. As the largest national school board, overseeing approximately 33,000 affiliated institutions, CBSE previously announced modifications to the schedule for the 2026 class 10 board exams last year, stating that the results for the first set of exams conducted this year would be available in April.

This year marks a significant change as CBSE is administering two sets of board exams for class 10. This initiative aligns with the recommendations of the National Education Policy 2020, which aims to lessen the pressures associated with a single high-stakes examination. The Board will offer a second opportunity for students to take exams in May, which they can opt for to enhance their performance. Those who participated in three or more subjects during the initial exams are eligible to improve scores in up to three subjects, which include science, mathematics, social studies, and languages. Additionally, students who did not pass one or more subjects in the first round can also sit for the second exams. Students in West Asian countries, where examinations for certain subjects were canceled due to regional conflicts, are also permitted to take the second set of papers.

Although the schedule for the second set of exams has yet to be confirmed, a provisional timetable shared last year suggests that these exams may commence around May 15.

In the previous year, CBSE announced the results for class 10 and 12 on May 13. This year, the Board is operating under a tight timeline to ensure that the second set of exams occurs in May, with results anticipated to be revealed in June.

Once the results of the first set of exams are published this month, students will have the opportunity to decide if they wish to take the second set of exams to potentially improve their grades. Following the conclusion of the class 10 board exams in March, schools were allowed to submit lists of candidates for the second exam. This submission window will reopen for five days after the results are released this month, with an additional two days available afterward for late submissions with a fee.

After the main exam results are announced this month, students will be able to access their performance records through DigiLocker, which can be utilized for admission into class 11 if they opt out of taking the improvement exams. However, passing certificates and merit awards will be distributed to all students only after the second exams are completed. For those who take the improvement tests, the highest scores achieved will be considered.

In the previous year, the pass rate for class 10 was 93.66%, showing a slight increase from 93.60% in 2024. The Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada regions recorded the highest pass percentages at 99.79% each. Girls achieved a pass percentage of 95%, while boys had a rate of 92.63%.

For class 12, the pass percentage last year stood at 88.39%, an increase from 87.98% in 2024, with girls again outperforming boys, achieving 91.64% compared to 85.70% for boys.

This year, a total of 2,508,319 students registered for the class 10 exams, while 1,859,551 candidates signed up for the class 12 exams.

Class 12 answer sheets are being evaluated this year using an ‘on-screen marking’ system.

Since 2020, the Board has ceased to publish the list of top performers in the board examinations.
