UPSC Unveils Provisional Answer Keys for NDA and CDS 2026; Submit Objections by April 22

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released provisional answer keys for the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination (I) 2026. This release represents a significant change in the UPSC’s traditional approach, as it is the first time the Commission has made answer keys available so soon after the examinations, rather than waiting until the conclusion of the entire result cycle.

Official announcements on the UPSC website indicate that the provisional answer keys for both the NDA and CDS exams are now accessible in PDF format. For the CDS (I) 2026 examination, answer keys have been provided for all three subjects: English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics.

In a similar fashion, answer keys for the NDA and Naval Academy (I) 2026 examination, covering Mathematics and the General Ability Test (GAT), have also been published. Both exams took place on April 12, 2026, and candidates can now review the official responses shortly after the tests, ahead of the final results being declared.

Additionally, the Commission has activated its Online Question Paper Representation Portal (QPRep), enabling candidates to submit any objections regarding the provisional answers. As stated in the notice, candidates have the opportunity to present their concerns within a designated timeframe, along with any necessary documentation or justifications. Following a thorough review of the submitted objections, UPSC will issue final answer keys, which will be definitive for evaluation purposes.

This action aligns with the Commission’s prior signals of a shift towards more transparent practices regarding the disclosure of answer keys. Historically, UPSC has been cautious about releasing answer keys immediately after exams due to concerns over the integrity of the evaluation and the potential for litigation.

However, during recent public engagements, the chairman of the Commission recognized the increasing demand for transparency and hinted at the possibility of implementing a revised system. The release of provisional answer keys for NDA and CDS 2026 signifies the first tangible step in that direction. By providing candidates with early access to official answers and allowing them to contest any discrepancies, the UPSC is fostering a more transparent and inclusive evaluation process.

In light of this development, similar changes are anticipated for other significant UPSC examinations. The Civil Services Examination (CSE) Prelims 2026, set to occur in May, may also adopt the practice of releasing provisional answer keys shortly after the exam, along with the same procedures for objections and finalization. Although UPSC has not yet issued a specific notification regarding the timeline for CSE answer keys, the rollout for NDA and CDS indicates a broader transformation in the evaluation process, even for high-volume assessments like the CSE.
