Nitish Kumar Steps Down from His Role as Chief Minister of Bihar

Nitish Kumar, the leader of the Janata Dal (United), announced his resignation as the Chief Minister of Bihar on Tuesday, thereby concluding his record tenure in this role.

Prior to his meeting with Governor Syed Ata Hasnain to formally present his resignation, Kumar advised the dissolution of his cabinet, as stated by state minister Ram Kripal Yadav to the news agency PTI.

Just the previous week, Kumar had taken the oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerges as the largest party in the 243-member Bihar assembly, holding 89 seats within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition. The BJP is set to convene at its office to select its leader for the legislative party.

Within the NDA, which comprises a total of 202 members, the JD(U) holds 85 seats, along with 19 from the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and five from the Hindustani Awam Morcha. Moreover, there are five MLAs representing the Rashtriya Lok Morcha.
