Recently, Varun Dhawan found himself embroiled in controversy during the promotional period for his war film, Border 2. A number of social media users criticized his performance in the movie’s trailers, leading to a significant backlash that at times resembled trolling. This situation appeared to affect Dhawan personally. Nevertheless, he managed to quell the critics when the film ultimately achieved commercial success, proving his detractors wrong.
Currently, Varun is experiencing another round of social media scrutiny following the unveiling of the first look for his forthcoming film, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. The criticism intensified after Instagram influencer Simran Bhat shared a Reel in which she accused Dhawan of orchestrating fabricated reviews for the film.
In her video, Simran recounted an encounter at Rajiv Chowk Metro where she and a friend were approached by two individuals. She stated, “Two people approached us and informed us that a teaser for a Varun Dhawan film had just been released. They asked if we could provide a review. I mentioned that I hadn’t seen it yet, but they insisted it was fine, saying, ‘We’ll tell you what to say.’” Simran expressed her astonishment, questioning the authenticity of a review that was scripted. She remarked, “How is it a review if you’re dictating my words? The girl attempted to justify it, saying it was because I hadn’t viewed the teaser. However, I told them that if they wanted an honest review, they should consult someone who had actually seen it.”
According to Simran, the woman who engaged her insisted that she watch the teaser on the spot. “She kept urging me to view it,” Simran explained. “I told them I was in a hurry, so they replied, ‘Accha niklo niklo! Jao jao.’ (Okay, fine, just leave). I was left wondering, has Varun Dhawan fallen on such hard times that he needs to resort to fake reviews?” she expressed incredulously.
The situation escalated further when Varun Dhawan responded to Simran’s Reel with a comment that read, “Hope you get the views you really want with this video.” Simran retorted, “@varundvn Sir, with all due respect, I don’t need to do these things for views. I’m already content with my numbers.” Additionally, she shared a screenshot of another comment from Dhawan that seemed to have been deleted, in which he stated: “First of all, ma’am, you’ve convinced yourself that someone approached you because I sent them. All this for views.” Simran’s post concluded with a pointed question to Dhawan: “Everything’s fine, but why did you delete that comment?”
Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, directed by David Dhawan, features Varun Dhawan alongside Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde in prominent roles. The first look, which has garnered mixed feedback, showcases what appears to be AI-generated infants discussing their father, portrayed by Varun. The unconventional use of AI in the film’s visuals has sparked considerable online discourse. The film is scheduled for release on May 22.
