Authorities have confiscated several devices following allegations of concealed cameras in the changing facilities at Horsham Town Hall.
In light of these developments, the local council has decided to cancel upcoming events and expressed regret to anyone who may have been impacted.
Investigators are calling on individuals who have recently utilized the changing rooms to come forward and assist the police.
A probe by Victoria Police is currently in progress in Horsham, located in western Victoria, after multiple reports surfaced regarding the placement of hidden cameras in the town hall’s changing areas.
On April 2, law enforcement officials conducted a search of the premises, seizing mobile phones, computers, and various storage devices for forensic analysis.
While the exact duration of the devices’ operation in the town hall remains uncertain, authorities believe they were in use for “a period of time.”
Investigators have identified a person of interest, who has since been suspended from his position, although he has not yet been interviewed by police.
Detectives are actively working to identify individuals who may have been affected by the alleged incidents and are encouraging anyone who used the changing rooms during events to reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
The Horsham Rural City Council has issued a statement expressing its sincere apologies to those potentially affected by this situation.
“We can confirm that we are collaborating with Victoria Police regarding the investigation of an alleged security violation at Horsham Town Hall,” the statement noted.
“The council became aware of the suspected breach on April 1, 2026, and promptly reported the situation to VicPol.”
“We understand that this news may be alarming and distressing for our staff and community members, particularly for those who have performed at, attended, or worked in Horsham Town Hall. We sincerely apologize to these individuals.”
The statement further emphasized that the council took immediate measures to mitigate any further risks.
It mentioned that the venue was inspected and cleared by Victoria Police, events were canceled or rescheduled, and ticketholders were contacted directly.
“The council is working closely with VicPol. Given that this matter is under active investigation, we are restricted in the information we can disclose,” the statement concluded.
