Authorities in Keilor East, Melbourne, reported that a cleaner made a startling discovery of illegal drugs, firearms, explosive materials, and over a million dollars in cash at a short-term rental property. The incident occurred on January 24, leading to immediate action by law enforcement.
Upon the discovery, the Bomb Response Unit, along with the Australian Defence Force, was dispatched to the scene to safely detonate the hazardous items found on the premises. Victoria Police confirmed that the property had been occupied by renters for several weeks during January.
In connection with the rental agreement, police have questioned a man, who has since been released while investigations continue. They have also shared images of another individual they wish to interview, who was seen on surveillance footage refueling a white Toyota Camry.
This particular vehicle was observed making multiple trips to the rental location during the time it was occupied. The footage was recorded at a service station located on the Western Ring Road in Ardeer on Christmas Day. While the Camry was rented from a car rental agency, authorities noted that the individual shown in the images is not the individual who rented the vehicle.
Police indicated that the person who had booked the car has been uncooperative with the investigation. Detective Inspector Jamie Walker from the Major Drug Squad emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, “This was not a typical seizure of drugs and money; the presence of incendiary devices and a significant amount of firearms points to organized crime.” He urged anyone with information regarding the man associated with the white Camry to come forward, adding, “We are committed to identifying those responsible and ensuring they are held accountable. It is advisable for anyone with knowledge to share it with us now.”
